Asar Social Impact Advisors and Child in Need Institute (CINI) organized a significant workshop on Gender and Climate Dialogues in Ranchi, shedding light on the urgent need to empower local women's leadership in the battle against climate change impact. The event, held on Wednesday, gathered over 70 participants and aimed to foster new partnerships and collaborations among diverse stakeholders to address gender-specific challenges in relation to climate change in Jharkhand.
During the workshop, experts emphasized the crucial role of women's leadership in combating the adverse effects of climate change. They stressed that empowering women at the grassroots level is essential for building resilient communities and mitigating the impact of environmental changes. By involving women in decision-making processes and providing them with opportunities to actively participate in climate action initiatives, the workshop underscored the potential for transformative change.
Manish Ranjan, Secretary of the Department of drinking water & Sanitation, highlighted several pressing issues that necessitate urgent attention. The increased health hazards brought on by climate change, the restricted access to water and sanitation facilities, and the low involvement of women in decision-making processes are some of these problems. Recognizing the significance of addressing these challenges, the workshop sought to mobilize efforts and resources toward gender-inclusive climate solutions.
Rajeshwari B, MGNREGA Commissioner, also emphasized the importance of targeted efforts to address women's unique climate change challenges. The workshop aimed to create solutions that help women deal with the changing climate while keeping their livelihoods and well-being with an emphasis on the needs and vulnerabilities of women.
Climate change continues to pose substantial threats to vulnerable communities, particularly impacting women who often bear the brunt of its consequences. By promoting gender equality and empowering women in the fight against climate change, the workshop sought to create a more sustainable and inclusive society.
The event's participants hailed from diverse backgrounds, including government officials, civil society representatives, and experts from the climate and gender sectors. By bringing together such a diverse group of stakeholders, the workshop aimed to facilitate meaningful dialogue and foster collective action toward building a climate-resilient Jharkhand.
The workshop served as an essential platform for sharing knowledge, best practices, and innovative ideas that can pave the way for gender-sensitive climate policies and programs. By nurturing partnerships between organizations, governments, and local communities, the event aimed to enhance the capacity of women to adapt to climate change and play an active role in sustainable development.
As climate change continues to shape the future of our planet, empowering women's leadership emerges as a vital strategy to safeguard vulnerable communities and create a more equitable and sustainable world. Through collaborative efforts and inclusive practices, the workshop in Ranchi aimed to bring about positive change, enabling women to steer the course towards a climate-resilient and gender-just future.
