England beat India by 38 Runs in First Match of Women's T20I Series

At Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, the first Twenty20 International (T20I) of a three-match series saw the England women's cricket team defeat the India women's cricket team by a margin of 38 runs on Wednesday, 6 December 2023. After winning the toss, England Women chose to bat first. In 20 overs, they scored 197 runs losing six wickets. India Women responded by scoring 159 runs in 20 overs for 6 wickets.

The England Women's team was knocked down to 2 for 2 in the first over by Renuka Thakur Singh (3/27), however opener Danielle Wyatt (75) and Nat Sciver-Brunt (77) shared an 87-ball 138 for the third wicket. Amy Jones hit a fast nine-ball 23.

To this, England's Sophie Ecclestone (3/15) claimed three wickets to stop India at 159 for six. With a 42-ball 52, Shafali Verma top-scored for India.

N. Sciver-Brunt of the England women's cricket team was named Player of the Match after she scored 77 runs in 53 balls, claimed one wicket, and gave up 35 runs in 4.0 overs.

The brief scores are, 

England: 197 for 6 in 20 overs (Renuka Thakur Singh 3/27, Danielle Wyatt 75, and Nat Sciver-Brunt 77).

India: Shafali Verma 52, Sophie Ecclestone 3/15; 159 for 6 in 20 overs.

In the 3-match T20I, the second T20I match between the two teams is scheduled for 9 December 2023, at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
