Early Breast Cancer Detection Tool Designed by SBI Initiative

The 'Thanks A Dot' initiative by SBI Life Insurance embarks on another lifesaving tool that will enable women to be aware of breast cancer and form a habit of self-breast examination.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is observed in October every year and it serves as a reminder for all women to prioritize their health and perform self-breast examinations regularly.

SBI Life has created a new innovative tool as a part of this initiative to promote self-breast examination by utilizing the 'hot water bag,' which is commonly used by women during their menstrual cramps. There is a simple change in the design of the hot water bag such as attaching special lumps on the front side of the bag that allows women to experience the sensation of a real breast cancer lump during self-examination. The tool assists in training, educating, and reminding women about the importance of regular self-breast examination and early detection.

The new technological advancements in the fight against breast cancer are helping but far from eradicating it. Studies show that breast cancer is common among young females in India aged between 25 and 50. Unfortunately, 60 per cent of these cases are diagnosed at an advanced stage which depletes the survival chances but the early detection of these cases can save lives up to 98 per cent of breast cancer cases, making regular checkups an important step in the fight against breast cancer.

SBI Life Insurance supports this cause to make a significant difference in communities by distributing and producing these specially designed bags. The organizations can also provide these bags to their customers, employees, and others for free allowing this life-saving tool to become a part of every household and providing early detection of breast cancer among women in society.
