- Diageo India launches special Level 1 Spirits training sessions in collaboration with the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET)
- The program is aimed at junior professionals and female bartenders throughout India
In order to provide women bartenders and junior professionals throughout the nation with exclusive Level 1 Spirits training sessions, Diageo India has partnered with the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET). The Diageo Bar Academy is driving this initiative, which highlights the company's continuous efforts to support leadership, professional growth, and gender diversity in the bar and beverage industry.
Over 80 women will receive internationally recognized WSET certifications in the program's first phase, improving their abilities and expanding their employment opportunities. The workshops are being held under Diageo India's "Our Hive" initiative, which is devoted to empowering women in the hospitality sector. Through community development, education, and mentoring, the platform fosters professional advancement.
The program's wider impact was highlighted by Anchal Kaushal, Vice President of Customer Marketing at Diageo India: "Our partnership with WSET reflects our strong commitment to inclusivity, skill-building, and progress." With Diageo Bar Academy's top-notch certification and knowledgeable instruction, we are not only improving skills but also opening doors to leadership and creating a diverse, capable workforce.
For qualified women aged 21 and up, the scholarship-based training is entirely free. Candidates are chosen according to predetermined standards and at the jury's discretion. With this initiative, Diageo has taken a significant step in its mission to build a more capable and inclusive future for the Indian bar industry. Notably, the company's Indian subsidiary, United Spirits, had previously announced that it would be closing its 160-year-old facility in Hyderabad because of changing market conditions and deteriorating infrastructure.
