Chinese Taipei player Tai Tzu Ying wins India Open 2024 Tournament

On Sunday, January 21, Tai Tzu Ying, a prominent badminton player from Chinese Taipei, defeated Chen Yu Fei, the current Olympic champion, in straight sets, 21-16, 21-12, to win the women's singles title at the India Open 2024 tournament. This was Tai Tzu Ying's 32nd title. She previously lost in the Malaysian Open championship match.
During the entire tournament, Tai Tzu Ying won all of her matches in straight sets without dropping a single set. Despite being behind in the opening game of the championship match, she came back to win six straight points, making the score at seven, and then took the set 21-16. At the Olympics and the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Championship, Tai Tzu Ying has yet to secure her gold medal.
Tai Tzu Ying participated in the Super Series competition at the India Open in 2016 and dedicated her victory in the opening set to the encouragement she got from the spectators in the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall in New Delhi.
"I am not thinking too match and looking to prepare for the Olympics and the games ahead of it," Tai Tzu Ying stated when asked about her goals for this season.
Tai Tzu Ying, a Taiwanese badminton player, is currently ranked 4th globally. Born in 1994, she has been ranked world No. 1 in women's singles for 214 weeks and has won numerous titles, including the India Open 2024. Tai Tzu Ying is a silver medalist from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, has won three Asian Championships, and started playing badminton at age five. She started competing in international tournaments in 2007.
