Fast Retailing has announced that award-winning Australian actress Cate Blanchett will serve as the new global ambassador of its Uniqlo brand.

Cate Blanchett, the Oscar, BAFTA, and Golden Globe-winning actress, will collaborate with the company to promote the LifeWear philosophy—a promise of commitment, philanthropic values, next-generation support, and contributions to society.

"Cate Blanchett is one of the best actresses of her generation on stage and screen." But our admiration extends far beyond her art," stated Tadashi Yanai, Uniqlo CEO and chairman of Fast Retailing, and Fast Retailing president and CEO.

"Her dedication and strong work ethic are demonstrated in her support of rising artists, as a female role model, and in her persistent work on global humanitarian and environmental causes. We, collectively, want to leave a tangible, positive impact on the earth."

The Japanese firm disclosed that details regarding Cate's ambassadorship will emerge over the next few months.

Born in Melbourne in 1969, Blanchett is also renowned for her work in Tár, Carol, The Aviator, Blue Jasmine, and Elizabeth, as well as award-winning work on Broadway and London's West End.

Cate has also been co-CEO and co-artistic director of the Sydney Theatre Company and co-founded production company Dirty Films.

Cate is also involved in campaigning. She is a goodwill ambassador of UNHCR, member of Earthshot Prize Council, and Wakehurst's Millennium Seed Bank first-ever ambassador. She is also part of cultural organizations like the UK National Theatre, Sydney Film Festival, and NIDA Foundation.

"I am excited about the opportunity for Uniqlo to make life more pleasurable with LifeWear—fashion for the durability of design, simplicity, quality, and affordability," stated Cate.

"I am drawn to its commitment to empowering the next generation's young people, ending global displacement, philanthropy, and its efforts towards creating a balanced world.

The possibility of working creatively with Clare Waight Keller and in collaboration with fellow ambassador Roger Federer makes this association all the more rewarding."

Meanwhile, in its July trading update, Fast Retailing logged softer-than-expected earnings. The three-month operating income to May stood at ¥146.7 billion ($1 billion), below the consensus forecast of ¥150 billion, as sluggish sales in China hit the bottom line. Net income for the quarter stood at ¥105.5 billion.
