- Bihar CM Nitish Kumar reiterates his promise to offer financial assistance of up to Rs 2 lakh to women entrepreneurs
- The financial assistance will be offered under the "Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana" scheme
- The main objective of the scheme is to empower women and make them self-reliant
Bihar CM Nitish Kumar reaffirmed his commitment to offer women entrepreneurs a financial aid of up to Rs 2 lakh ($2,600) under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana Programme as part of his pledge to run for the 2025 Assembly elections.
He made this statement through his X account, where he explained that this Programme is intended to empower women and increase their ability to support themselves financially.
CM Nitish stated that one of the main goals of the Women’s Employment Scheme is to empower women and to make them self-dependent by providing them with financial assistance for self-employment and to support at least one woman from each family in becoming an entrepreneur.
During the first phase of the programme, Rs 10,000 ($130) was provided to one woman from each family in the following manner: they completed the application process and received the funds through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to 1.56 crore beneficiaries.
According to CM, all remaining eligible applicants in rural and urban areas will receive the funds through DBT according to the programme’s policy and procedures.
There are additional provisions to provide eligible grants of Rs 2 lakh ($2,600) to those who have qualified for the first tranche six months into their business.
He said "I'm pleased to announce that actions have been taken so that an additional Rs two lakh can also be provided as financial assistance to the beneficiaries of the Chief Minister's Employment scheme for women".
He stated that any assistance provided will be in phase payments and any payment will be contingent upon confirming that any prior funds have been successfully utilized for creating employment. In situations where the business has been successful, payment can be made as a total amount, if deemed necessary.
The CM told the appropriate departments that they should provide marketing assistance for products produced by the women entrepreneurs.
The women entrepreneurs will be connected with other government programs, such as garment manufacturing and supply from Sudha milk outlets and Didi ki Rasoi (community kitchens).
Nitish stated that the scheme's implementation will strengthen women's positions and increase the number of jobs in Bihar to decrease the outflow of people seeking jobs elsewhere.
