BGS Gleneagles Global Hospital has opened a women's cancer care centre, which is an all-inclusive, women-led facility that will provide women with complete cancer care. Throughout conjunction with the event, the hospital held a cyclothon in the city called Pink Ride to raise breast cancer awareness.

On Saturday, Sunetra Pandit, a cine artist and dubbing artist, Nayana Sooda, a famous theatre artist, Jayashree Raj, a cine artist and producer, and Rohith Nagesh, a cine artist and President of Rotary Banashankari, launched the centre and the event.

To make this a meaningful event, the hospital partnered with ImpactGuru.com, a healthcare funding website. The demonstration began at 7 a.m. and ended at BGS Gleneagles Global Hospital in Kengeri, covering areas in and surrounding R.R. Nagar. This year, the hospital staff pulled together around 400 individuals to support the cause, including members of the BGS Gleneagles Global Hospital team, cancer survivors, a cycling group, bikers, and residents from the surrounding area. The Rotary Club of Banashankari and Rideaddicts were among those that took part.

The goal of the event was to raise awareness about the illnesses and give a venue for women to do safe cancer screenings. Breast cancer is the most common malignancy among Indian women, according to a recent ICMR research, with 1.5 lakh new cases diagnosed in 2018. One in every two women diagnosed with breast cancer dies over the next five years as a result of a delay in detection.

BGS Gleneagles Global Hospital's Senior Surgical Oncologist, Dr. Monika Pansari, commented "Breast cancer is becoming a raising concern among women. One out of 8 women is likely to have invasive breast cancer in the course of their life. However, early detection of breast cancer increases survival rates by 95 percent”.

Dr. Monika Pansari (Surgical Oncologist), Dr. Mathangi (Radiation Oncologist), and Dr. Rajeev (Medical Oncologist) convened the event, which was arranged with the help of the oncology team and the other surgical team with the goal of making both men and women realise the seriousness of the diseases. Women in India are apprehensive about communicating their disease and symptoms with their family and doctors. As a result, they decided to open a Women's Cancer Care Center — an all-female-led team dedicated to providing women with a comfortable environment in which to receive treatment for all forms of cancer. The team provided every women with a free breast examination for a month, as well as advice and strategies for self-examination of the condition.

According to Sandeep Kumar, CEO of BGS Gleneagles Global Hospital, “it is hard to pinpoint the cause of the disease, however there are a few risk factors including sedentary lifestyle, alcohol consumption, obesity among youngsters and poor dietary intake." "It is believed that the mortality rate due to Breast cancer in India spiked due to lack of awareness, late diagnosis and lack of screening programmes."

Breast cancer cases are on the rise, according to doctors at BGS Gleneagles Global Hospital. Not having children, late marriages, and not breastfeeding are some of the other important risk factors. They've also noticed an increase in the number of instances among younger women in their 30s.

ImpactGuru.com's Co-Founder and COO, Khushboo Jain, stated , "for thousands of cancer patients in India, online crowdfunding has proven to be the most effective way to raise funds for their treatment. Breast cancer crowdfunding campaigns are amongst the highest raised fundraisers on ImpactGuru.com. Cancer crowdfunding can help women receive timely treatment and save lives. As we work towards making an extraordinary impact through our healthcare financing platform, we're pleased to associate with BGS Gleneagles Global Hospital, in their initiative to raise awareness about breast cancer and celebrate women cancer survivors."

This year, the hospital staff honoured a few breast cancer survivors who have become advocates for raising awareness about the disease and how early medical intervention saved their lives. They all emphasised that early detection and a positive mindset are the most effective ways to combat the condition.
