Army Chief of Staff General Dhiraj Seth felicitated women military officers from Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries along with Indian women officers undergoing UN Women Military Officers Course (UNWMOC) programme at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi. This event underscored India’s focus on increasing women's participation in peacekeeping missions.
As part of the engagement, General Dhiraj met 11 women officers from ASEAN countries and Indian women officers pursuing the course. Seth praised the professionalism, dedication, and contribution made by the women military officers to the UN peacekeeping missions. He emphasized that women soldiers are vital for successful peacekeeping operations.

The ASEAN-UN Women Military Officers Course will be held at the Centre for United Nations Peacekeeping (CUNPK), New Delhi from August 10 to 21, 2026. The specific course is structured to offer pre-deployment training to the military officers for their smooth functioning in the field of peacekeeping operations conducted under the United Nations.
In his discussions with the participating officers, the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) stressed the importance of women soldiers presence in UN peacekeeping missions. He appreciated their efforts towards contributing to world peace through multinational operations under the aegis of the United Nations. In addition to training the officers in UN peacekeeping, the program also acts as a forum for exchanging experiences between the Indian and ASEAN officers in the field of UN peacekeeping operations.
The programme is part of India's wider efforts to enhance its defense collaboration with ASEAN, especially with regard to capacity-building and professional training, sharing knowledge and skills for international peacekeeping. This program was launched by the Raksha Mantri at the 3rd India-ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM), which was held in Kuala Lumpur in 2025.
The program also serves to reinforce the commitment of India in contributing towards the involvement of women in peacekeeping missions in the UN through provision of specialized training and professional interaction. Through the program, there will be an exchange of experience and expertise among women military officers from ASEAN countries and India. The program further facilitates closer links between the armed forces of India and ASEAN countries.
The UNWMOC aims to provide the participating officers with the specialized knowledge, skills, and professional expertise required for performing their duties in UN Peacekeeping Operations. Apart from preparing them for the task ahead of them, the program aims to bring more women into peace and security activities and provide them an opportunity to assume the role of leaders in multinational operations.
This on-going course at the Manekshaw Centre, New Delhi is important not only because of military training but due to India's initiative to enhance the professional capabilities of women in the military forces, increase their involvement in UN peacekeeping operations and engage defense relations with the member states of ASEAN.
