Andhra Pradesh is stepping up efforts to empower women as entrepreneurs, with the state government aiming to nurture at least one entrepreneur per household. Minister for MSME Kondapalli Srinivas, speaking at a programme where the Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP) and the Association of Lady Entrepreneurs of India (ALEAP) signed an MoU to promote women entrepreneurs as Business Development Service Providers (BDSPs), highlighted the government’s commitment to women-led enterprises. On the occasion, the minister also handed over 35 BDSP certificates to women who completed training under the initiative.
ALEAP, under the leadership of its founder Kanneganti Rama Devi, is equipping women with skills in diverse sectors such as garment-making, packaging, food processing, biotechnology, plastics, and pharmaceuticals.
Under the RAMP (Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance) scheme, 53 BDSPs have already been certified, with an ambitious target of training 1,200 BDSPs, five in each of the 175 Assembly constituencies. These trained BDSPs will play a pivotal role in providing technical guidance, advisory services, and market linkages to grassroots entrepreneurs.
Notably, ALEAP has also set up a women-led industrial estate in Kuppam, while the Minister has proposed the establishment of a similar estate in Vizianagaram to bolster enterprise development in North Andhra.
The event was attended by SERP CEO V. Karuna, ALEAP president K. Rama Devi, vice-president Annapurna, and other representatives.
