Anca-Maria Verma has been appointed Ambassador-at-Large of the Inter-Governmental Institution for the Use of Micro-Algae Spirulina against Malnutrition (IIMSAM) in India for a five-year term, running from October 20, 2026, to October 19, 2031. The appointment was announced by the Office of the Verma Family and IIMSAM.
The appointment was formally issued by H.E. Remigio Maradona, Secretary-General of UN IIMSAM, in recognition of Anca’s commitment to humanitarian service, international cooperation and sustainable development.
IIMSAM is an intergovernmental institution with Permanent Observer status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). Its mission focuses on addressing malnutrition, promoting food security, supporting public health initiatives and contributing to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Key Highlights:
- Anca is appointed IIMSAM Ambassador-at-Large for India for a five-year term from 2026 to 2031
- IIMSAM focuses on combating malnutrition, promoting food security and improving public health through Spirulina
- Anca will support humanitarian initiatives and stakeholder engagement to advance IIMSAM’s mission in India
In her new position, Anca will help IIMSAM's humanitarian activities in India, building institutional partnerships, international cooperation, and fostering engagement of stakeholders to further IIMSAM's mission.
Anca comes with an established track record in philanthropy, culture and social engagements from her association with the prominent industrialist and Shiv Sena leader Dr. Abhishek Verma who is also a Trustee of the Shrikant Verma Trust.
Addressing malnutrition and access to nutrition in vulnerable communities is one of IIMSAM's key objectives, which involves promoting the use of nutrient-rich microalgae, Spirulina. Food security and the alleviation of malnutrition are one of the priorities of the organization in its humanitarian activities.
However, working alongside governments, non-governmental organizations, academic institutions and other partners has been identified as being an important element in furthering its work. This collaboration can help to raise awareness about nutrition, community engagement, and the creation of sustainable solutions to malnutrition.
As Ambassador-at-Large for India, Anca will complement the institution's humanitarian goals by engaging with stakeholders. She will have a hand on the affairs of IIMSAM in India during her five-year term, but there are no independent confirmations of specific programs, partnerships and implementation plans she will represent in the sources reviewed.
