Amway India, an FMCG Direct Selling company, has expanded its Project Nari Shakti - Women Livelihood Program to Madurai, Tamil Nadu, in collaboration with the Yellow Bag Foundation. The program provides vocational skills, entrepreneurship training, and health education to underprivileged women, aiming to empower them for socio-economic independence, informed health choices, and personal growth.
Studies show that despite women's significant contributions to India's economy, they only lead 13.7 per cent of enterprises, despite compromising 66 per cent of the population. Amway India's 10-month training program empowers women through theory, practical skills, nutrition education, entrepreneurship, and industry internships. Over 3,000 women have been offered benefits with Madurai expansion supporting economically disadvantaged communities.
Amway India's Managing Director, Rajneesh Chopra, emphasizes the importance of empowering women for a more inclusive society. Through Project Nari Shakti, the company aims to provide women with skills and confidence for sustainable livelihoods, fostering economic independence and societal well-being.
Project Nari Shakti in Madurai aims to break down societal norms, by offering training in beauty, wellness, fashion design, entrepreneurship, and nutrition. The initiative targets 100 low-income women aged 18-45 with annual family income below Rs. 2 lakhs. Through partnerships with NGOs, it has provided sustainable livelihood options to over 35,000 individuals, including over 3,000 women, across various regions since its inception in 2020.
