Indian Navy Sailing Ship (IASV) Triveni, crewed by six women officers of the Indian Armed Forces, arrived at Perth in Australia, which marked the completion of the first leg of its global circumnavigation as part of Mission Samudra Pradakshina.
The trip is the world's first tri-service all-women circumnavigation trip. The crew was received at Fremantle Sailing Club by Indian Consul General in Perth Kajari Biswas and Australian Defence Advisor.
The team will take a break in Perth briefly to rejuvenate and maintain their boat shipshape before taking on the second part of their journey, according to reports by the Indian High Commission in Canberra. The circumnavigation is to cover over 26,000 nautical miles and cross the three seas.
The expedition is in commemoration of Nari Shakti (women empowerment) and Viksit Bharat (Developed India) vision.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh virtually flagged off the expedition from Mumbai on September 11, with Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, and Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh in attendance.
Speaking to the gathering in his opening address, the Defence Minister said that the trek reflects women's power, inter-services unity, self-sufficiency, and India's effort to connect with the international community. He also said that the visit demonstrates the Armed Forces' discipline, resolve, and teamwork.
Rajnath also emphasized the point that "Triveni," a 50-foot locally developed yacht produced in Puducherry, is the height of "Aatmanirbhar Bharat" (Self-reliant India) and reflects India's confidence in its defence approach as well as its technological prowess.
