  • Around 95% of women are willing to transition into AI-specific roles if there is sufficient organizational support
  • The report identifies AI as a major contributor to bridging the gender gap in technology jobs
  • India contributes about 43% of the world’s female graduates in the field of STEM

According to a report released on Tuesday, approximately 95 percent of females are likely to transition to AI-focused jobs if given adequate organizational support. The report was revealed in New Delhi by ANSR and Talent500.

The report indicated that even though India contributes to approximately 43 percent of the world’s female STEM graduates, currently, females make up merely 29 percent in entry-level technology jobs and merely 14 percent in senior leadership positions.

The report also indicated that there is a misconception that there is a scarcity of talent. It also indicated that structural and systemic obstacles are to blame for the scarcity.

According to the survey results, 64 percent of females felt that the adoption of AI had increased their progress towards senior leadership positions. It also indicated that AI skills are a better career enabler compared to tenure and performance.

Around 65 per cent of respondents demonstrated a sense of optimism about AI-related career prospects, out of which 36 per cent were very optimistic. Moreover, 69 per cent of respondents noted that AI has enabled new career paths, such as product strategy, AI governance, and transformation leadership.

The report further noted that women have been able to devote more time to more valuable professional pursuits owing to AI adoption.

The report noted that India’s Global Capability Centers (GCCs) have a relatively stronger representation of women. Women hold 16-17 per cent leadership roles out of nearly 6,500 leadership roles. However, there was a notable drop of 40 per cent in representation from entry-level to senior leadership roles.

Smitha Hemmigae, Managing Director at ANSR, commented on the findings of the report: “A key differentiator between industry leaders and others in the future will be how well they embed equity in AI transformation.”
