Goldman Sachs has announced that 200 women entrepreneurs, who are part of its 10,000 Women Finance for Growth initiative, are set to raise an estimated Rs 850 crore from various investors. The funding will help them expand their businesses and create new jobs. The initiative has already contributed to India's economic growth, aligning with the government's vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
With the aim of empowering women entrepreneurs, the initiative has offered necessary skills, mentorship, and access to capital to around 3,500 women and created job opportunities. The event was organized by Goldman Sachs to mark the 10,000 Women Finance for Growth initiative where Piyush Goyal, Minister for Commerce and Industry mentioned "The Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women initiative highlights the untapped potential in women, I am confident that they will continue to break barriers and empower others." He added, "The programme also demonstrated how these women have contributed significantly to the government's journey to Amrit Kaal as we work towards achieving India's Viksit Bharat goal by 2047."
Goldman Sachs' Office of Corporate Engagement, Asahi Pompey, stated that with the correct set of skills and mentorship, along with strategic network access, women entrepreneurs will be empowered, which will act as a powerful catalyst for sustainable job creation.
The initiative launched will offer women entrepreneurs a deeper understanding of external finance for growth. Developed in 2023 in partnership with IIM Bangalore's NSRCEL, it aims to bridge the credit gap and support women-led businesses in India.
