179 Govt-Owned Companies Lack Mandatory Woman Director: Govt

As per the Companies Act of 2013, the government has disclosed through a statement made in New Delhi on Monday. There are 179 government-owned entities (Including public sector undertakings), which do not have any woman director on board.
The law specifies that all listed companies must appoint at least one female to their board. Public companies meeting specified thresholds must also have at least one woman added to their executive boards.
The requirement applies only to those Government Owned Enterprises that meet the requirements at the end of each quarter. All Listed Companies that were listed as of December 31, 2013 must comply with as of March 31, 2020.
In a letter to the Lok Sabha, MOCA Harsh Malhotra indicated that out of the total of 708 Companies owned by the government that were liable for compliance: 529 of the companies have complied with regulations by appointing at least one woman to the company's board.
179 of these companies have not complied. There are varying reasons among the non-compliance Companies, some due to Administrative issues or other company specific reasons. The timeframe for compliance was not specified.
Minister Harsh also indicated that data collected regarding fines that may have been imposed on the government-owned companies have not been maintained on a centralized database.
In the reporting data dated March 31, 2020 (Within the 20-21 Financial Year) there are currently 668 female Directors and 3423 male Directors appointed to the board of Directors of all the government owned companies.
