How has your professional experience been so far? What inspired you to join the lighting industry?

I have been in this industry for 20+ years and it has been a worthwhile journey. I am an interior designer and have gotten the opportunity to switch my career with a specialization in lighting. Lighting is a very important segment of interior design and has a lot of value addition, which fascinated me to join the sector. I have played diversifying roles in the industry as a lighting designer, consultant, product developer, and brand promoter. Currently, I am the General Manager of CION looking after the entire operation of the organization.

Give us a brief overview of CION Lighting Technologies. What are the various roles & responsibilities that you shoulder as the General Manager of the company?

CION is a retail light manufacturing company that helps all sorts of retailers in the market to light their outlets in the right way. We are dedicated to the supreme level of luminaire aesthetics, optical performance, reliability, and innovation in illumination design. As the General Manager, I am responsible for the smooth operational function of the company by developing effective synchronization between every department. I make sure to bring the exceptionally enthusiastic team of CION on a common platform and help them build their skills in the best possible way. Outside the company, I focus on building a strong relationship with our best clients & help them by understanding their requirements. What are some of the key business challenges that you face in your current role? What business strategies do you leverage to tackle the challenges & ensure organizational success?

Pandemic has been the biggest challenging situation in my professional journey. But as it is said with every challenge comes a change, even for CION, we were able to bring changes into our organization for the better. With our proficient team effort, we were able to implement strategies to expand our market. Even today we are putting our endless efforts to become better than what we were yesterday. Some of the key strategies for a good business are to have an excellent product, an understanding of the competitive market, the capability to maintain a relationship with the existing clients, and also ability to place the business in a higher position. Our strong R&D department has gone through extensive research to design LED lights in a way that allows the heat to dissipate quickly. Our lighting solutions are better suited to withstand the harsh weather conditions of the Gulf region. Such distinguishing features make our organization a success. 

What are your views about the evolution of the Indian business industry in the last decade? What would be your advice to young women entrepreneurs who aspire to align with these evolutions?

Indian business industry is developing every day and is soon going to emerge as the largest economy in the world. There is a lot of potential in the youth of India and they come up with some of the best ideas for startups. With the digital development in the country, the Indian market is rushing towards developments creating a lot of opportunities for the new age entrepreneurs. I keep myself updated with the latest trends in the market by spending the first 20 minutes of my day going through informative social media platforms. I would advise the same to aspiring entrepreneurs to be updated about the competition in the market because they need to be ahead of time. Today they have to be one step-up from yesterday and again one more step up tomorrow. They need to create better versions of themselves to be successful leaders in businesses.
