Could you share details about your educational history and the previous industry exposure you bring with you?

My personal journey illustrates the boundless potential of women. Originating from a small town where early marriage is the prevailing norm for most girls, I, too, found myself in such a situation. Nonetheless, I owe my entry into the Shipping Industry to my supportive husband. My professional odyssey began after I became a mother to two daughters, and I encountered specific challenges that I gradually overcame. It's important to emphasize that behind this accomplished woman stands Captain Alok Kumar, my guiding beacon throughout, providing unwavering encouragement. His example should be a source of inspiration for other men.

In terms of my education, I earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and pursued a Master's degree in Multimedia. My initial job experience involved working as a Website Developer in an IT company. This role taught me the delicate art of balancing personal and professional life, while also granting me valuable insights into an employee's perspective regarding goal attainment, the importance of meeting deadlines, the significance of compensation, and the anticipation of weekends.

“My principal responsibilities encompass authorizing all financial decisions & placements across our global network of offices”

Share with us the valuable business insights you've gathered during your industry tenure. What are the key areas of expertise you possess as a business leader?

My journey as an entrepreneur has been instrumental in fostering emotional stability and maturity within me. Regardless of the circumstances, I have learned to maintain unwavering composure.

In my capacity as a General Managing Director (G.M.D), I have honed my skills as a highly disciplined administrator. I'm responsible for ensuring that all aspects are meticulously arranged before, during, and after execution. Moreover, I must perform these tasks while considering multiple time zones, as even the slightest oversight on my part can lead to considerable confusion and disrupt the seamless operation of our global business endeavors.

Please provide an introduction to Alphard Maritime Group and outline the diverse roles you undertake as the Managing Director.

Alphard Maritime Group had its inception in 2009, initially consisting of a modest team of five individuals, which included Capt. Alok and myself. Alphard Maritime Group's inaugural service offering was Ultrasonic Thickness Measurement. Subsequently, we ventured into Ship Security, and within a span of two years, Alphard Maritime Group ascended to become the leading Ship Security Company in Asia. Over the ensuing years, our organization diversified into various sectors, encompassing Underwater Services, Tugs and Barges, and the acquisition of Cape vessels and Offshore vessels.

In my capacity as Group Managing Director, I lead the Mumbai office, serving as the headquarters for Alphard Maritime Group. My principal responsibilities encompass authorizing all financial decisions and placements across our global network of offices.

In your view, what are some of the most significant hurdles you face as a Maritime leader, and how do you address these obstacles?

Given that the logistics industry operates on an international scale, we enlist individuals from various national backgrounds, and our operations span multiple time zones. At times, this diversity can present formidable challenges. To tackle these formidable roadblocks, I've cultivated a constant state of readiness, akin to being in "pilot mode" at all times. This entails being prepared to step into various roles at a moment's notice. For instance, if I receive news that our HR Manager has resigned, I'm ready to assume that responsibility. Likewise, if unforeseen circumstances require the CEO to take a medical leave, I'm prepared to step into the CEO's shoes.

What is your vision for the future development of the Maritime market in India?

I envision a highly promising future for the Maritime sector in India. The shipping industry, which forms a crucial part of this field, offers employment opportunities not only in India but also across the globe. It's essential to note that logistics covers both onshore and offshore operations, creating vast job prospects.

What principles have guided your success and leadership approach as a business leader?

My unwavering passion for my work fuels my leadership philosophy. I firmly believe in the value of discipline, and as a business leader, my mantra is to welcome challenges, stay prepared for unforeseen circumstances, and never waver in my determination.
