In the era of globalization, every economy in the world is trying to gain a competitive advantage by inviting the best talents around the world to enhance its development. With the relocation of human resources, there is a wide expansion in the economical and cultural aspects of the world. Relocation and immigration not only provides broader job prospect but also creates challenges for immigrants especially in acclimating to a new environment. Aiming to provide hassle-free relocation services to expat employees, Preeti Roongta co-founded Lexagent Expat Relocation Services along with her dynamic husband, Vikas Roongta.
Preeti is a Bachelor’s degree holder in Science and Post Graduate Diploma in Designing. She has a strong hold on customer service, business development, and corporate training. With twenty years of experience in immigration and relocation, Preeti is helping her clients to settle with ease in India.
Preeti Roongta engages in an interactive session with the Women Entrepreneur Magazine, let’s hear from her.
Tell us about your educational journey and prior industry experience.
I was born in Pune, where I completed my schooling from St. Mira’s High School and graduated from SNDT College, Pune with Science major. Being from a conservative family I was forbidden to take my first job in Mumbai. But with my determination of breaking stereotypes, I appeared in many interviews and made myself professionally active by initiating work at Birla AT&T (today’s Idea Cellular now merged with Vodafone).
I've spent over twenty years working in the relocation and immigration sectors, first indirectly and then directly. I worked with INSZoom when I lived and worked in Silicon Valley, US. As per my prior expertise working as a corporate trainer in India, I was given responsibility for the training division there. I've worked for several brands in India, including Idea Cellular, MsourcE (now MphasiS EDS), USA Teacher Placement Agency, and more, so working in multiple countries has provided me with a lot of cultural knowledge and exposure. Through Lexagent I got to know the in-depth aspects of immigration and relocation.
What are the important features of your expertise you would like to highlight?
The strength of self-belief and resilience is one of the elements I think has a big impact on my current performance as a female business leader. During my professional journey, I was motivated to overcome the stereotypes and persuade myself that I wasn't less worthy just because of my gender. Integrity and grit, which manifests itself in your day-to-day job and relationships today, is the second most crucial feature of my expertise. Last, finding and nurturing a potential talent, that brings out the best in people is my third feature.
"Luck favors those who are ready to take the leap of faith in their life decisions"
What was the underlying idea behind establishing Lexagent Services? What are the significant services provided by the firm to its clients?
My husband and I always had a profound desire to run our own business, and that desire gave birth to Lexagent Expat Relocation Services. We enjoyed discussing and promoting India by telling all why it can be such a fantastic location to live, but we had no clue that this would turn into our line of work. As a result, I learned about a sector of the economy that involves people migrating across continents for jobs, as we were new to this industry we faced a lot of difficulties. Lexagent began in 2005, and a lot of little things happened that helped us to get started on our path. Additionally, the main idea behind this project was to leverage our expertise. The most crucial part of our business is helping a family relocate or move to India by serving as a friend, adviser, and constant resource for them. The main idea and our areas of expertise include moving families, particularly expat families, to India and helping them with all aspects of the visa process. Lexagent is now also a partner of choice for mid-size and small Indian MNCs to assist with their workforce mobility from India to various international locations. We offer seamless support for Visas and Immigration services.
What are the roles and responsibilities you shoulder as the Director of Lexagent?
As the Director of Global Sales and Immigration, some of my duties include managing an international brand, developing it, create brand engagement and forge new relationships in markets which are still niche for us. Client service, crisis management, and brand image are three such areas. The other major duty is to expand the range of linked services we offer in addition to our current service offerings. I am also handling the Pune Expat Club, a platform established to give new expats in the city a place to socialize and connect with others who are in similar situations.
What are the challenges you face in your current role?
Due to the lack of understanding of our industry, we frequently have to devote a considerable amount of effort to explaining who we are, is a significant business hurdle. The second issue is that we have a lengthier search time for team members because our industry is still in the early stages of development. Technically speaking, our firm is impacted by worldwide changes, therefore, if there is a global recession or any other global political crisis, our business is the first to be impacted. This is something that we simply have to accept, and as business owners, we must be creative in our approach and prepared to meet the challenge.
