One of the major factors that have helped the rise of women entrepreneurs in India is online selling. Today, a woman can sell products right from home or can easily send products anywhere across the country or even worldwide. They only need to set up an attractive e-commerce website to showcase and start selling products.

One such entrepreneur who is paving the way for women to come forward is Preeti Singh Jatia, the founder of Fayonkids. Established in 2006, Fayon is a premium children's wear brand that customizes clothes for newborns, toddlers, and teenagers.

In this interview with Women Entrepreneur Magazine, Preeti Singh Jatia shares her insights on the company’s value proposition, and the need for women to make the most of every opportunity.

What are your key responsibilities as a founder?

As the captain of the ship, my primary objective is to keep the business afloat and ensure that it runs smoothly. I’m also involved in building a unique business model that supports customer loyalty, and trust, with a continuous stream of innovative products, added value, and improved quality and quantity of service. To confront the escalating competition, I extend my support toward creating a competitive strategic advantage in an established market niche.

How have you positioned your organization in the market?

Fayon primarily focuses on the comfort of the child while keeping in mind the latest fashion trends. The collections include casual, semi-formal, formal, Indian, western, and indo-western wear for all occasions – birthdays, weddings, festivals, theme parties, and more. Ranging from Indian to Western, Fayon Kids complements every occasion with an edge and prettiness.

We deliver quality and fashionable products. All credit goes to our highly skilled closely knit staff, who work round the clock to develop stylish clothes for infants, toddlers, grown-ups, and teenagers. They use their technical perspective and creative flair to work on designs for new and original clothing. Our long-term success depends on customer satisfaction so we are working together to achieve a common goal.

What are some of the challenges that you face in your entrepreneurial journey?

I don’t think I can ever forget the most challenging part was the initial years of my journey. During this period, there weren’t many women entrepreneurs in the market. I had to interact with several tailors who were men. It was very challenging for me as a woman to even get work done by a man. Even though these tailors were experienced, they were not adaptable enough to take on new designs. Hence, they never would listen to me.

Fortunately, the mindset of these tailors evolved through time. Now, there are no such issues.

What are some of the significant milestones you have achieved so far?

Every year, we welcome more customers who are like family. These happy and satisfied customers will call or message us after the event to give us feedback. They appreciate our products. So these types of things actually drive me forward. And I would call them my milestones. We've had the chance to dress children, famous kids from different fields, like TV stars and movie stars, to name a few.

What would be your advice to the young budding entrepreneurs and women stepping into a leadership position?

I think most women are just scared to take that one step. Your confidence should be your most potent tool when starting a business as a woman. If you have faith in your abilities, you are almost there. As a budding entrepreneur, you have to keep updating yourself and learning new things. Although there are numerous entrepreneur networks available, selecting one that is specifically for women business owners might be helpful. Preeti Singh Jatia, Founder, Director, Fayon Kids

Preeti Singh Jatia, is the Founder, Director, and Lead Designer at Fayon Kids, Delhi NCR. Born and raised in Pune, Maharashtra, she is a BNCA graduate in Textile, and Interior Design. She has also dabbled for years with Chartered Accountancy, post her degree from the Indian Institute of Chartered Accountancy.

Post her stint through an exchange program in Paris, she found that her interest continued to be in the textile industry, through which she gained a year’s experience with an export house in Delhi. In 2004, Having nothing to dress her one-yearold daughter with, and an intermittent issue with the fairer sex, Preeti took the onus of designing her daughter's closet on herself. Preeti started making dresses for her nieces, and friends and thus, Fayonkids was born, and she hasn’t looked back since.
