Harkiran Kaur Wraich: A Trailblazer Leading The Way With Innovative Approach Towards Film Production

Harkiran Kaur Wraich
Creative Director, Redi Productions

Acreative person's work can profit tremendously from their early exposure to the cinema because of the wealth of information and experience it can provide. Someone who has spent their entire life in filmmaking is more likely to have a comprehensive grasp of all the roles that go into making a movie, from scripting to directing to shooting to editing. This exposure can give them a better grasp of the big picture, allowing them to spot and resolve creative challenges. Harkiran Kaur Wraich, the Creative Director of Redi Productions, serves as a prime example of such a professional.

Harkiran's journey into the world of cinema began at an early age. Over the years, she has worked on numerous film projects, from small independent films to large-scale international productions. Her dedication and hard work have earned her recognition and accolades in the industry, including awards from prestigious film festivals and even recognition from the President of India. Below is an excerpt of Harkiran’s exclusive interaction with Women Entrepreneur magazine.

What are some important features of your expertise as a creative professional?

As a Creative Director at Redi Productions, I am responsible for setting the direction of a project from

start to finish and delivering it with all the creative assets. In the film and entertainment industry, a Creative Director's work extends beyond the film itself, and I must look at every aspect of the project. I am not just a leader but a ‘Mastro’ to my team, inspiring them to perform at their best. Having expertise in project management and resource allocation is essential, as is providing creative ideas and understanding our client's vision. Also, I believe that being an empathetic professional is crucial in delivering exceptional work.

"In The Film & Entertainment Industry, A Creative Director's Work Extends Beyond The Film Itself, & I Must Look At Every Aspect Of The Project"

Throw light on the most critical challenges you face as a creative professional. What strategies do you leverage to overcome the roadblocks?

Working in an environment with a wide range of opinions and views is, in my opinion, the most difficult aspect of being a creative professional. This is particularly true given that one of my duties as creative director is to pitch and persuade customers and employees on our team's creative vision. Conflicts over concepts are usual for me, and they can be tricky to resolve. But I've learned that the best strategy is to remain calm, pay close attention to others' suggestions, and show compassion. To that end, possessing strong verbal and nonverbal communication skills and the capacity to appreciate and understand the viewpoints of others is crucial. Also, I find that taking notes and extracting the best elements from everyone's input helps in creating a beautiful final product that satisfies both clients and team members.

Tell us about the top three milestones you have achieved throughout your professional journey. What has been your Mantra for success?

I started my journey in the creative industry at a young age and have been recognized for my work through various awards and accolades. One of my most memorable moments was being awarded by the president Pratibha Patil in 2010 for my contributions to different sociocultural activities and film projects. Our first film garnered national and international recognition and paved the way for us to work with international filmmakers, expanding our reach to Poland and the US. Recently, we launched Mangu the Fighter, an English-language film that has been a great milestone for us. Despite facing challenges along the way, my mantra has always been to keep going, and my perseverance has paid off with recent awards for Best Director and Best International Film at the Palm International Film Festival in Dubai.
