Once considered a luxury, aesthetic and reconstructive medicine has now become a global movement reshaping the way we see ourselves and how we live. From correcting congenital conditions and rebuilding lives after trauma to refining features that boost confidence, the spectrum of cosmetic and reconstructive surgery touches both the heart and the mind.

With rising acceptance and advanced technologies, Dr Maria Marta Rubatti is taking this movement forward. Dr Maria is currently the Head of the Plastic Surgery Department at Glamour Care Clinics in Dubai, and is a distinguished plastic and reconstructive surgeon whose career bridges Argentina and the Middle East. Renowned for developing her own liposuction method and being among the first to introduce high-definition body contouring technologies such as VASER and renuvion J plasma in the UAE, Dr Maria has emerged as a global opinion leader, trainer, and consultant for leading U.S., Turkish, and European companies in regenerative medicine, exosomes, and collagen biostimulation.

What led you to specialize as a plastic surgeon? What key areas of expertise have you developed over the years?

There were two main reasons to enter healthcare and specialize as a plastic surgeon. Firstly, I wanted to help people as I have always been empathetic. However, this sensitivity made certain specialties very difficult for me.

As a child, I used to switch parts of my dolls to create the “perfect” one. I didn’t realize it then, but I think it was a sign of my search for beauty, for improvement; not perfection, because perfection doesn’t exist, but helping people become the best version of themselves.

I see this transformation in my patients every day. Many arrive lacking confidence, sometimes even depressed. But after surgery, they often become a completely different person, radiant, secure, and happy.

Introduce us to Glamour Care Clinics and how it is different from other clinics.

Glamour Care Clinic is not my own clinic, but it feels like it is because I have been working there for almost five years. It’s a high-end place, and the team is exceptionally well-trained. Most of our team is female, which is important here in the UAE, since many husbands prefer their wives to be treated by females. We also have one of the best plastic surgeons in the world on our team, which makes it even more special.

Can you elaborate on the various challenges that you have currently faced during your journey so far?

Being a woman in medicine, especially in plastic surgery, was not easy. When I started, almost all surgeons, especially plastic surgeons, were men, and the field was seen as a career for males. I had to deal with machismo, not through fighting, but by proving myself through my skills and my mind.

I was aware that I had chosen a male-dominated specialty, but I loved it too much to walk away. For me, it’s enough to know that I am very good at what I do, that my patients are happy, and that I love my work. That’s what really matters.

What is your unique approach towards patient care?

What sets me apart is the way I deal with people. I am very empathic. When patients visit, I welcome them in a friendly way and explain everything about the surgery, the process, and what they will feel afterward. I never skip details because if I were in their place, I would want to know everything. Patients are trusting me with the most important thing they have, their bodies; therefore, it’s my duty, as a doctor and as a human being, to give them my very best.

I always show them real cases similar to theirs, and I never promise results I cannot deliver. That’s why I have no complaints from my patients, and that peace of mind is invaluable.

How do you incorporate new technologies into your practice?

I work with a machine called VASER, which we use for High Definition Liposuction. It melts the fat and contracts collagen from the inside, tightening the skin before I proceed with liposuction. I also use another machine, Renovium G-Plasma, which combines helium gas and radiofrequency. It’s one of the most powerful technologies for collagen contraction, but it requires great skill because, if misused, it can burn the patient. I have been using VASER since 2008 and was the first to combine VASER and Renuvion in the UAE, so I know how to combine them safely and effectively.

Surgery can restore confidence, but never forget you are more than just a woman. You are worthy, valuable, and strong

Many surgeons only focus on the procedure itself, but I combine the best technologies with regenerative medicine to give patients the most complete results.

What is your roadmap ahead for the near future?

I am gearing up to launch my own company, Maria Shape, which creates compression garments disguised as everyday clothing. After surgery, patients need compression for two months, but most want to switch back to normal clothes after one. With my designs, they will have garments that look stylish, even swimwear, while still supporting healing. And it’s not just for surgery patients; any woman who wants to feel more shaped or confident can use them.

Beyond that, I am introducing new exosomes and hybrid collagen stimulator in Argentina, bringing new regenerative options to South America. At the heart of it all, my philosophy is simple: no matter your religion or background, just be a good human being, and you will never go wrong.
