Medical Director, Dr Juvita Aesthetics

A dermatologist is a physician who specializes in the treatment of skin, hair, and nail conditions. A cosmetologist, on the other hand, is a beauty specialist who specializes in the art of beautifying the body. Wouldn't it be wonderful to find a doctor who is both a dermatologist and a cosmetologist; who can address your dermatology related concerns while also working on the aesthetics? Dr. Juvita Rasquinha, a well-known dermatologist and cosmetologist, is one such doctor whose first priority is her patient's comfort and satisfaction with therapy.

Dr. Juvita is the Medical Director at Dr. JUVITA AESTHETICS, a Bangalore-based skin, hair, and cosmetology clinic. She completed her M.B.B.S from Fr. Muller Medical College , Mangalore and D.D.V.L from Christian Medical College, Vellore, Tamil Nadu. She got both the seats on merit basis. She then completed her cosmetology training in Mumbai.  Dr. Juvita is acknowledged for her proficiency and skill in providing numerous Dermatology and Cosmetological procedures throughout her 15 years of experience.

Sharing her thoughts with the Women Entrepreneur team, Dr. Juvita expressed her admiration for Sudha Murthy's simplicity, resilience, passion for teaching, and desire to inculcate virtues in the next generation.

Give us a brief overview of Dr Juvita Aesthetics.

Dr. Juvita Aesthetics which was founded in 2016 is a leading skin clinic that specializes in the field of dermatology, hair care and cosmetology treatments. We strive to provide cost effective and safe treatments to all our patients. Equipped with state-of-the-art, safe technologies, our solutions span from painless laser hair reduction, wart removal, acne and pigmentation treatments for anti-ageing and hair loss.

What factors motivated you to venture into the field of healthcare and eventually pick such a niche segment?

After having graduated from Fr. Muller Medical college of Medical sciences, Mangalore, I went on to specialize in Dermatology from the prestigious Christian Medical College Vellore. It was here that the exposure of a myriad of cases arriving from all over India kindled my deep interest into the subject.

After completing my post-graduation, I took up an assignment with Kaya Clinic, Bangalore. The experience enabled me to apply my medical knowledge to regular and aesthetic dermatology. A subsequent foray into private practice enabled me to reach my full potential. I was working very hard and enjoying it too. At the same time, I was learning something new every day.

Tell us about your major areas of expertise as a dermatologist and cosmetologist. What are some of the major work areas in the said field?

After more than 15 years of practice, I am well versed with most aspects of the job. Each day I get to incorporate medical, cosmetic, and evidence-based dermatology, see patients of all ages and both genders, and there are always interesting cases to keep me interested. Each day is like no other.

In the field of cosmetology, I excel at performing Botox and Dermal Fillers. Of late, I've been focusing on incorporating latest laser hair removal technologies into our services portfolio.

We have pioneered the use of a Quad wavelength Laser for removal of unwanted hair. It is by far the safest and most efficient laser for this kind of treatment. Especially in female patients where many of them have a medical background of PCOS and hair removal becomes a challenge, this technology has worked wonders.

We also employ the latest Pico Laser for pigmentation treatment and Tattoo removal. This laser is cutting-edge and has brought a revolutionary change in the treatment of different forms of pigmentation.

“I'm grateful for the experiences, stresses, un-knowns and the journey that took me where i am today practicing what i love”

What are some facets of your personality that have helped you in becoming a successful healthcare professional? How do you keep yourself aligned with the periodic evolutions occurring in the industry?

I would say that my ability to quickly understand the type of individual seated across me and empathize with their situation has helped me deliver the best treatment for each patient. No two patients are the same. I recall many difficult cases that I've dealt with over the years. I have found strength in facing the problems head-on and harnessing the energy and creative potential that often accompanies such situations.

I'm grateful for the experiences, stresses, unknowns and the journey that took me where I am today practicing what I love. Most of all, I'm glad and very grateful for having followed my childhood dream to become a doctor and follow my passion. The patients make it worth it.

The field of Dermatology and Cosmetology is ever-growing. I manage to keep abreast of medical innovations by attending conferences and reading relevant medical journals. I am also a member of the IADVL Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologist and Leprologists and follow their publications with keen interest.

How do you strike a balance between your professional and personal life? What would your advice be to young women aspiring to foray into the field of healthcare?

Given the demands of my profession, I've learned to cherish the time spent with my family. In particular, I enjoy spending time with my daughter and participating in any kind of family activity. I do also enjoy walking and exercise and make it a point to get my daily dose of physical activity before bed.

A word of advice that I would like to offer to young women dermatologists and women doctors in general is to use your innate ability to listen and empathize with the patient to establish rapport and achieve the best outcome for both. Also, work when you can but be mindful of the things that make life worth living, your personal time, time with family and friends. Always try and maintain a healthy work-life balance to achieve a long a successful career as a medical professional.
