Indian Women Leaders are Vanquishing All Odds & Rising to the Top of the Indian Business Landscape

Close to half of India’s population is female. But can you guess how many Indian women are a part of the workforce? Just a small fraction!

Although women makeup 48 percent of the Indian population yet only 18 percent of them are embroiled in paid work of any kind. Indian women are most probably the most underutilized demographic in the country. Reports have proven again and again that bringing more women in the workforce is not only beneficial for the women but for their families, communities, organizations and the Indian economy on the whole.

So, why is it that more women are not a part of the working sphere? And why are they so starkly underrepresented in the top leadership roles?

The answer lies in our society’s patriarchal mindset. Women face societal suppression which has been deep rooted in our very DNA over generations. Indian women are denied education, kept away from employment opportunities and are bogged down by household responsibilities.

Even in the working world, women face disadvantages galore. From not being given equal opportunity, being paid less than their male counterparts to the lack of support structures for integrating women after career breaks, women face a lot of challenges.

Workplaces are also notorious for being 'all boys club', especially in the top echelons where 'alpha dogs' are still prevalent. Women find it that much tougher to break into this system and carve a space for themselves.

However, women have been persevering for years and rising to success despite facing the aforementioned roadblocks. Time and again they have proven stereotypes wrong by adding great value to their respective teams and organizations.

Women Entrepreneur Indian magazine is committed to highlighting inspirational stories of such women leaders who are rewriting the rules of the game.
