Singapore has the third lowest gender gap in South East Asia according to the Global Gender Gap Index. On a scale where 1 means absolute parity, the island nation scored a .77 in 2023.
However, women in Singapore have interesting views about gender parity in the country. According to Indeed’s Promoting Women for Better Work report 37% of female workers in Singapore believe the gender pay gap is biggest at the country level as compared to their own organisations (24%) or industry sector sectors (28%).
It has been estimated that only 30 percent respondents felt that the gender gap in the country could be closed in the next five years, whereas realistic estimates peg this at 50 years.
These are interesting observations considering the rest of Asia lags much behind in terms of gender parity.
