Finance Geniuses: Every Third CA in India is a Woman

In a lot of ways, a business is much like a machine. Made up of several components that are required to function well, in order for the business to thrive, it must be a ‘well-oiled machine’. A critical component for this machine to function well is the finance function. While an entrepreneur might be an expert at their core business, but if they lack the understanding of finances, the business is very likely to fail. In such scenarios a Chartered Accountant’s expertise comes to the rescue.

Well versed with know-how about financial institutions, finance laws and other structures, Cas often act as trusted business advisors who help enhance an enterprise’s financial performance.

A revered occupation in India, chartered accountancy was traditionally considered a ‘man’s job’. But the tides have changed. In 2000, only eight percent of all Cas in the country were women. But almost 24 years down the line and the number of women CAs risen to more than 30 percent. In fact every third CA in Indian today happens to be a woman.

It’s a great leap in numbers and we are hopeful that soon enough there will be true gender parity in chartered accountancy.

This month’s special WER magazine edition is dedicated to highlighting prolific women CAs of India.

Tanuja Sinha, Proprietor, Tanuja Sinha and Associates is another name that commands great reverence in the finance world. A Chartered Accountant from ICAI and a B. Com (Hons) graduate from the University of Calcutta, Tanuja now has over 25 years of experience in taxation, finance, and compliance. She has held key positions at Henkel Spic India, KPO start-ups, EY and PwC before establishing Tanuja Sinha and Associates (TSA).
