Republic Day: 6 Pathbreaking SC Rulings for Women's Empowerment

By: WE Staff

The morning of Republic Day always arrives with a quiet sense of resolve, tricolours unfurled against winter skies, echoes of sacrifice and hope woven into every celebration. As India marks its 76th Republic Day today, the Women Entrepreneurs Review team wishes you a prosperous and purpose-driven Republic Day, one that honours both our constitutional values and the journeys they continue to shape.

On January 26, 1950, India formally declared itself a republic, bringing into effect the Constitution drafted with extraordinary foresight under the leadership of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and the Constituent Assembly. This moment transformed India from a newly independent nation into a sovereign republic governed by the rule of law, equality, liberty, and justice. The Constitution was not designed as a static document; it was built to evolve. Over decades, constitutional amendments, landmark legislations, and progressive policies have reflected India’s changing social, economic, and political realities, expanding rights and deepening democracy for its citizens.

For Indian women in particular, the republic has been a living promise. From workplace safety and equal pay to dignity, representation, and autonomy, critical legal judgments and policy reforms have steadily strengthened women’s rights. As we celebrate Republic Day 2026, Women Entrepreneurs Review brings to you six historical judgments that every citizen should know. These decisions reshaped India’s workplaces, laws, and opportunities, and continue to empower women across generations.
