Raksha Bandhan: 9 Indian Sibling Partners Building Successful Businesses
By: Ayushi Dutta, Senior Correspondent
1. Adwaita Nayar and Anchit Nayar: Sibling Partners leading Nykaa
Adwaita Nayar and Anchit Nayar grew up watching their mother, Falguni Nayar, build Nykaa from a beauty e-commerce venture into one of India's recognised consumer brands. Rather than launching separate ventures, the siblings joined the family business and took responsibility for different verticals.
Adwaita Nayar, Co-founder and CEO of Nykaa Fashion, leads the company's fashion and lifestyle business. In contrast, Anchit Nayar, Executive Director and CEO of Nykaa Beauty, oversees its core beauty and personal care operations.
Their distinct responsibilities allow the siblings to bring different areas of expertise to the wider Nykaa business. While Adwaita focuses on fashion and style, Anchit leads the beauty vertical that forms the foundation of the company. Together, they are contributing to the next phase of their family's entrepreneurial legacy.
2. Vinita Gupta and Nilesh Gupta: Sibling Partners leading Lupin
Vinita Gupta and Nilesh Gupta are the driving force behind Lupin, the pharmaceutical company their father, Desh Bandhu Gupta, founded in 1968. Vinita Gupta, CEO of Lupin, has played a key role in the company's international expansion. She previously helped build Lupin's US business into its largest market before becoming CEO in 2013. Her brother, Nilesh Gupta, Managing Director of Lupin, oversees areas including research, manufacturing and regulatory operations. Together, they have guided the company through global acquisitions and expansion across generics and specialty pharmaceuticals.
Their partnership demonstrates how siblings can preserve a founder's vision while adapting a family business to the demands of a global, professionally managed organisation.
3. Mrinalini Mitra and Nyonika Mitra: Sibling Partners leading Mithrasa
Sisters Mrinalini Mitra and Nyonika Mitra, Co-founders of Mithrasa, built their multimedia narrative studio around their shared passion for craftsmanship and immersive, hand-drawn storytelling. Mrinalini Mitra focuses on creative world-building and narrative direction, while Nyonika Mitra handles operations, logistics, and international fulfilment. Their complementary strengths have helped Mithrasa expand across 40 nations while retaining its distinct creative identity.
The studio has built its approach around independent crowdfunding and a commitment to hand-drawn visuals rather than AI-generated imagery. For the sisters, their relationship provides a strong foundation as they balance creative ambition with the practical demands of international growth.
