Independence Day 2026: What Freedom Means to Indian Women Founders

Independence Is the Freedom to Choose, Build and Lead: Ritika Garg, Founder & CEO, Avance PR
What does independence mean to you as a woman founder in today’s India?
For me, independence is deeply personal. It is not only about having equal opportunities, but about having the freedom and confidence to create my own path. As a woman and an entrepreneur, I have learned that independence also means being financially and emotionally self-reliant, making your own decisions, and standing by them.
For me, leadership is not just about breaking the glass ceiling for myself. It is about making sure there are fewer ceilings for the women who come after me. If my journey can make another woman feel more confident to start, lead, speak up, or take a risk, that is meaningful progress.
This Independence Day, I celebrate the freedom to choose, build, lead, and create space for others to do the same.
What role are women leaders and entrepreneurs playing in shaping India's growth story?
As a woman entrepreneur, I believe women will play a defining role in India’s growth story not because we need a seat at the table, but because we are already building new tables. I have seen more women stepping forward to build businesses, create jobs, and solve real-world problems with empathy and resilience. We bring diverse perspectives to leadership, and that makes businesses stronger and more sustainable. For me, success isn’t just about growing my own company; it’s about inspiring more women to believe they can lead, take risks, and create opportunities for others. When more women become entrepreneurs and decision-makers, India’s growth becomes more inclusive, innovative, and sustainable and that benefits everyone.
