Women's health startup Avni Wellness has raised ₹4 crore in a seed funding round led by Proteus Partners, with participation from investors Puru Gupta, Sreejith Moolayil, Dr. A. Velumani, and Somya Nigam. The fresh investment will support the company's expansion into its product range, enhance its digital commerce capabilities and boost access to women health solutions in India.
The company's official announcement says the investments will be made in the company's digital commerce engine, its cycle nutrition business, scaling the women-led micro entrepreneur network and its footprint on online marketplaces. The startups aim to help the common female user benefit from science-backed women healthcare products in urban and rural India, the company added.
Avni Wellness is a Mumbai-based women's health company, founded by Sujata Pawar and Apurv Agarwal in 2021 that offers science-based, holistic, toxin-free products for women from puberty to menopause, and everything in between. By combining healthcare products with women-led entrepreneurship programmes, the company takes a holistic approach and aims to be part of the solution for women's health, sustainability and living income.
The startup has a variety of products to solve common yet ignored health issues of Indian women. It has also developed a patented antimicrobial reusable sanitary pad designed to provide a sustainable alternative to the disposable sanitary pads currently being produced, and a liposomal iron supplement formulated to ensure better uptake of iron and fight the problem of iron deficiency which is prevalent among women in India.
Key Highlights:
- Avni Wellness raises ₹4 crore in seed funding led by Proteus Partners
- Funds will support product expansion, digital growth, and women-led entrepreneurship
- The startup offers science-backed solutions for menstrual and hormonal health
The brand also offers items that concentrate on PCOS management, calcium supplementation, urinary tract and vaginal health, and seed-based hormonal nourishment, all intending to help women's hormonal and reproductive wellness in a variety of life stages.
In the last few years, India's women's wellness and feminine hygiene industry has experienced rapid growth due to the rising awareness of menstrual hygiene, preventive healthcare and nutrition care. The company's market research indicates that the Indian feminine hygiene products market will grow to ₹70.20 billion by 2025, a testament to the increasing demand for innovative and sustainable healthcare solutions.
In parallel to product innovation, Avni Wellness is working on a scheme to establish a network of women micro entrepreneurs for better distribution of products and generation of livelihoods. The company feels this community-led approach can be used to help improve awareness and understanding of menstrual and hormonal health issues, especially in areas with less access to quality healthcare products and education.
The startup is part of the growing and fiercely competitive women's wellness market in India that has seen other companies like Pee Safe, Nua and Plush grow their interest in the feminine hygiene and personal care market. Avni Wellness, however, sets itself apart with a platform that unifies these solutions into one, catering to a holistic menstrual lifecycle approach and incorporating nutritional supplements alongside hormone health solutions and menstrual care products.
The new investment will help the company to scale up its growth through product innovation, digital expansion and distribution strengthening. With a commitment to bridging gaps and driving positive change, Avni Wellness strives to provide access to high-quality, evidence-based products and initiatives that improve women's health, nutrition, and prevention efforts.
