UP Govt appoints Aparna Yadav as Vice Chairperson of Women's Commission

Uttar Pradesh's government has appointed Aparna Yadav as the vice chairperson of the women's commission, a position she holds to influence policies and initiatives aimed at empowering women and addressing issues like gender-based violence, women's rights, and social welfare. Aparna, daughter-in-law of Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav and sister-in-law of Akhilesh Singh Yadav has associations with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and has a strong background in advocating for women's rights.
Governor Anandiben Patel has appointed Babita Chauhan as chairperson of the UP Rajya Mahila Aayog, with Aparna Yadav and Charu Chaudhary serving as vice-chairpersons until the UP government's decision. She will advise the state government on women's welfare issues, review and propose new laws, and address grievances. The appointment is seen as a strategic move by the BJP to strengthen outreach among women voters and contribute to policy-making.
The Women's Commission is a key body in promoting gender equality and women's empowerment. It advocates for women's rights, provides government advice on issues affecting women, monitors laws and policies offers support to women facing discrimination, conducts awareness campaigns, and conducts research to document women's status. Recent initiatives include empowering women in climate action, advancing women's political participation in the digital age, and supporting women's political participation in the digital age, further supporting the Gender Equity and Equality Action Fund.
