Delhi CM requests Re-appointing 10,000 Bus Marshals for Women's Safety
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi has requested the re-appointment of bus marshals to ensure the safety of women commuters in the city. She wrote a letter to Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena requesting the re-appointment. She highlighted that the marshals have played a crucial role in catching miscreants and preventing harassment and molestation incidents. The removal of marshals has eroded women's confidence in public transport, affecting their ability to travel fearlessly.
Treesa Jolly & Gayatri Gopichand secure 1st Super 300 Title in Doubles Pair for India
Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand made history by becoming the first Indian women's doubles pair to win the Super 300 title at the Syed Modi International tournament. They defeated China's Bao Li Jing and Li Qia with a score of 21-18, 21-11 in just 40 minutes. This victory marks a significant milestone for Indian badminton, as they had previously finished as runners-up in the 2022 edition of the tournament.
India to Host 1st Women's T20 World Cup for Blind in 2025
India will host the first-ever Women's T20 World Cup for the Blind in 2025, promoting inclusivity and opportunities for visually impaired women in cricket. The decision was made at the World Blind Cricket Council's (WBCC) Annual General Meeting in Multan. Pakistan's visually impaired women's team will play matches in Nepal or Sri Lanka, with Indian players traveling to compete against them. The Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI) will bear the event's costs.
99,809 Women Employed by Indian Railways says Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw
As of March 31, 2024, Indian Railways employed 99,809 women, including 2,037 loco pilots, according to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The information was shared in response to questions from BJP MP Dr. Manna Lal Rawat in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. Recruitment in the railway sector is based on established procedures, ensuring all eligible candidates, regardless of gender, are considered. Women are taking on roles traditionally male-dominated in the sector, including loco pilots.
Uttar Pradesh has 6,812 Women-led Startups: DPIIT Report
Uttar Pradesh's Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) reports that over 50 per cent of startups are led by women, with 6,812 being women-led, or 51 per cent in UP. This reflects the state's inclusive policies and efforts to empower women in leadership roles. These startups have collectively created more than 100,000 jobs in the state. The state aims to become a $1 trillion economy within 4-5 years, with plans to develop India's first artificial intelligence city and establish 100 incubators across 75 districts.
Himachal Pradesh CM announces 180 Days Maternity Leave for Female Home Guards
During the 62nd State-level Raising Day event, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced that women Home Guards will receive 180 days of maternity leave, whereas significant increase from their previous allowance of Rs 60 to Rs 500. The move is part of a broader initiative to modernize the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and enhance disaster management capabilities. The government plans to fill 700 vacant posts and establish drone stations at the district headquarters to enhance disaster management capabilities.
