Tamil Nadu CM launches State Policy of Women 2024

The State Policy of Women 2024 was launched by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on 21 February 2024. The policy aims to encourage and support women’s participation in the workforce and political landscape by advancing their well-being. It will function to elevate women’s status and reveal their hidden abilities while providing them with a sense of power in society, economy, and politics. Women in society will get a respected, safe, and healthy living environment.
The State Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Department provided a report that highlights the idea that a society’s total growth can be measured by women’s progress. In order to empower women to stay in a harmonious life with fair chances of a sustainable future, this policy aims to eradicate gender stereotypes.
The event was unveiled with a number of delegates present including Social Welfare Commissioner V Amudavalli, Chief Secretary Shiv Das Meena, Secretary of the Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Department Jayashree Muralidharan, and Minister of Social Welfare and Women Empowerment P Geetha Jeevan.
According to a statement released, the Tamil Nadu government has planned to implement a number of welfare programs to eliminate gender discrimination, create a safe environment, and improve women’s status. The policy based on the Chief Minister’s vision of social justice, equality, and empowerment, will remain in force for 10 years r until a new policy is formulated.
The policy closely monitors and works to reduce girl child dropout rates, improve adolescent girls’ health, increase women’s employment participation, ensure safe workplaces, support women-led enterprises, bridge the digital gender gap, reduce the skills gap, provide training, and also encourage political participation. It will be implemented through various departments' involvement.
The implementation of the policy will be monitored by the Department of Social Welfare and Women Empowerment by establishing an ‘Implementation and Monitoring Unit’ along with a high-level committee and district-level monitoring committees addressing challenges.
