SheWings Foundation has collaborated with Radico Khaitan to organize a health and hygiene awareness camp for women in the Sitapur region of Uttar Pradesh. The organizers of the campaign distributed sanitary napkins to the crowd after an interactive workshop that focused on educating women about menstrual hygiene and addressing the stigma associated with menstruation.
The main aim of this campaign was to encourage women to communicate freely about their health concerns and menstrual cycle while also providing them knowledge about good hygiene and creating a safe environment for them. SheWings provided sanitary pads as a part of their campaign at the ground level in Sitapur.
The event was organized in Bal Van Udyan, Ilsiya, Sitapur. A renowned inter-college in Lucknow's former Principal, Ms. Savita Singh, welcomed the participants to the event which included Mr. D.M. Shukla, DFO, Sitapur; Ms. Rekha, Senior Women Empowerment Activist, BJP; Ms. Pooja Chaudhary, Gram Pradhan.
Ms. Savita discussed the need of using sanitary pads and correctly discard them. She also urged women to look after their menstrual hygiene.
The UN Organization for child protection, UNICEF, noted in one of its latest surveys that 71 percent of adolescent girls in India are unaware of menstruation until they have their first period.
Another NGO reported that, the lack of adequate menstrual hygiene management facilities, including the accessibility of sanitary pads and information on menstruation forces nearly 20 million girls to drop their schools.
