Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit, vice chancellor of JNU, requested the federal government to designate January 3 as Women's Day and observe it alongside March 8 as the anniversary of social reformer Savitribai Phule's birth. The university's first female vice chancellor, Pandit, stated that Phule's efforts and contributions allowed her to get to where she is today. We are honouring Mata Savitribai Phule's 192nd birthday at Jawaharlal Nehru University, which is a historic occasion for all of us.
NU Vice Chancellor Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit requested the Central government on Monday to designate the third anniversary of social reformer Savitribai Phule's birth as Women's Day and observe it alongside March 8.
The work and contributions of Phule allowed Pandit, the university's first female vice chancellor, to get to where she is now.
We are honouring Mata Savitribai Phule's 192nd birthday at Jawaharlal Nehru University, which is a historic occasion for all of us. We are organising this type of event on her for the first time in the university's history, and it gives us great pride," Santishree added.
"Today's society has advanced as a result of Phule's labour and contributions. I am where I am today as a result of Phule's efforts and contributions. Women's Day is observed on March 8; nevertheless, Phule's birthday should also be recognised as Women's Day, she said.
The university held a discussion to commemorate Phule's birth anniversary, the vice chancellor declared.
The college has chosen to honour Mata Savitribai Phule's reputation as a "Mother, Teacher, and Social Reformer." This is the subject that should be discussed and debated the most in a school, she added. Santishree mentioned Phule's early marriage when discussing her life. She assisted her husband Jotiba Phule in opening schools for girls and providing education to "untouchables" as well, but when she was pushed, she turned to her work as an educator.
