PKL Chair Felicitates Indian Women's Kabaddi Team for WC Win

The Pro Kabaddi League honored the Indian women's kabaddi team after they won the Women's Kabaddi World Cup on November 24th in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The team returned to India Friday.

India won its second World Cup title after defeating Chinese Taipei in the final match 35-28. The team was undefeated throughout the entire tournament.

They finished at the top of their bracket with no losses. In addition to winning their group stage matches, they also defeated Iran 33-21 in the semi-finals to qualify for the finals. Chinese Taipei was also undefeated in their group stage matches, and defeated the home team Bangladesh 25-18 to reach the final.

"The return of the Women's World Cup after 12 years shows that Women's Kabaddi is continuing to make progress," said Anupam Goswami, PKL League Chairman and Business Head of Mashal Sports.

He went on to say that the creation of a structure for future plans, including possibly creating a Women's Kabaddi League, will be necessary for long-term success in the sport.

Chief Coach V. Tejeswini Bai stated, "The team has been in continuous training at this venue. It was that continuous discipline of training month after month that allowed us to accomplish this title today."

Team captain Ritu Negi said the triumph was a result of a collective effort, stating: "Though I was restricted to only my name being included in the final due to injury, the girls put up the required performance that earned them the win." She also lauded the recognition the team received post-win.

AKFI President Vibhor Vineet Jain said, "Kabaddi continues to gain an international presence, which is reflected in the increasing strength of various national teams like Chinese Taipei and Iran, whose growing presence has enriched the sport and enhanced the competition."

It was an evening of felicitation to mark India's triumph in the World Cup and a reflection of growing support and momentum for women's kabaddi within the country.
