Linthoi Chanambam Takes Part In Delhi's First-Ever Khelo India Women's Judo National League
By: WE Staff | Tuesday, 18 October 2022
Linthoi Chanambam of Manipur, the first Indian woman to earn a gold medal in judo at the World Cadet Judo Championship, will take part in the inaugural Khelo India Women's Judo National League, which will take place from October 20 to October 23 at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Delhi.
The Judo Federation of India and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports are putting together the league, a National Ranking competition for female judokas from 4 Zones.
It will be divided into four age divisions: Sub Junior (12–15), Cadet (15–17), Junior (15–20), and Senior (15 years and above). The top 7 judokas in each of the 31 weight divisions will receive a monetary reward.
In addition to Chanambam, the competition will feature Tulika Maan, the silver medalist from the "Commonwealth Games 2022."
There will be 496 Judokas in attendance for the competition. Based on their standing and performance in their respective zones, i.e., North, South, East, and West, the contenders for the national league are chosen.
In addition, the top 7 Judokas chosen from the national judo tournament and national selection trials will also compete in the national league.
It's important to mention that Manipur's Linthoi Chanambam, a 15-year-old judoka, won the gold medal at the global championships in Sarajevo after defeating Brazil's Reis Bianca 1-0. Linthoi's amazing victory made her the first person from her country to win a medal in any age group at the "World Cadet Judo Championship."
Linthoi is one of India's most talented judokas. In 2018, she won gold at the Sub-junior National Championships, which was her first opportunity to showcase her talent.
