The Indian women’s team’s batting performance hits a new low as the team lost their first ODI against Bangladesh. The team had to chase a score of 154 runs but were bowled out for 113. The 40-run defeat was the outcome of the opening game in the three-match series against the home team Bangladesh.
Amanjot Kaur, a new seamer took four wickets which helped India restrict the hosts to 152 in 43 overs. Rain played spoilsport and the game was shortened to 44 overs per side due and India’s new target was set at 154. The Indian side’s bowling effort went in vain as the batting side got bowled out in 35.5 overs.
Deepti Sharma scored 20 off 40 balls which was also the top score on the Indian side. The host team’s leg-spinner Rabeya Khan ran through the middle-order with figures of 3/30 and new-ball bowler Marufa Akter got 4 wickets for 29 runs.
Speaking after the defeat captain Harmanpreet Kaur said, “We didn’t take responsibility and bat well. In bowling also, we were not up to the mark”. “Overall, we are not batting up to the mark and not bowling according to our strengths. We have done well in ODI cricket and we have to back ourselves,” she further added.
Harmanpreet (5) was quickly dismissed but India lost the match in the middle overs when Jemimah Rodrigues (10 off 26 balls), Deepti (20 off 40 balls), and new comer Amanjot (15 off 40 balls) were on the crease for almost 18 overs between them but could amass just 45 runs.
