Indian Women's Hockey Team Leaves for Commonwealth Games 2022

The Indian women's hockey team left for the upcoming Commonwealth Games 2022 (to be held in London) on Monday morning. Upon their arrival in London from Barcelona, the Indian women’s hockey team will go to Nottingham for their final preparation camp. From here the team will leave for Birmingham on July 23.
The Commonwealth Games 2022are scheduled to start on July 28 and will go up to August 8. In their first match which is to be held on July 29, India will face Ghana.
The Indian women’s hockey team is being led by SavitaPunia who will also double up as a goalkeeper along with RajaniEtimarpu. The defense will be taken care of by Deep Grace Ekka (vice-captain), Gurjit Kaur, Nikki Pradhan, Udita. Midfielders in the team are Nisha, SushilaChanuPukhrambam, Monika, Neha, Jyoti, Navjot Kaur, SalimaTete. The team’s forwards are VandanaKatariya, Lalremsiami, Navneet Kaur, Sharmila Devi, SangitaKumari.
In a conversation with Hockey IndiaSavitaPunia, the captain of the team said, “"Unfortunately, we couldn't play to our potential at the FIH Hockey Women's World Cup Spain & Netherlands 2022, but we are very determined to turn our form around at the Commonwealth Games 2022. We have a great squad with a fantastic balance of experienced and young players. We'll take a fresh start at CWG 2022 and I am certain that we will be able to take on the best of teams in the competition".
