Indian Women Players drive Spectacular Win at 45th Chess Olympiad in Budapest

The 45th Chess Olympiad, held in Budapest, Hungary from September 10, 2024, to September 25, 2024, features top 2,000 players from 200 countries. The top seeds are the USA and India in the Open section, while India is the top seed in the Women's section too. The event organized celebrates chess, camaraderie, and sportsmanship.
Indian players, particularly the women's team, have been performing exceptionally well at the 45th Chess Olympiad, with Harika Dronavalli leading the team with strong performances securing a win against Julia Movsesian. Divya Deshmukh secured victories against Rachel Miller and Natalie Kanakova. Tania Sachdeva achieved a win against Gabriella Watson and a draw against Martina Korenova. Vantika Agrawal recorded a win against Tereza Rodshtein and a draw against Raehanna Brown. The Indian top seeded Indian women's team demonstrated strategic prowess and resilience, winning most matches and securing a convincing win against the Czech Republic with a score of 3.5-0.5.
Similarly, the Indian men's team also possessed a strong game against the competitors. Indian men defeated Iceland 4-0 in the second round, with D. Gukesh playing his first game. The Indian men maintained their 100 per cent record, winning all eight games so far. D. Gukesh secured a notable win against H. Stefansson. R. Praggnanandhaa led the victory against Mohammed Tissir. Arjun Erigaisi secured wins against Jacques Elbilia and Hannis Stefansson. Vidit Gujrathi notched up victories against Pierre Quakhir and Caro Kann. P. Harikrishna secured wins against Helgi Gretarsson and Anas Moayad.
