The Indian Embassy in Liberia hosted the Women's Legislative Caucus of Liberia (WLCL), aiming to strengthen collaboration on women's empowerment, parliamentary exchange, and capacity building. The meeting, led by the Chairperson of the WLCL, Rep. Ellen A. Attoh-Wreh, and the Representative of District #3, Bong County, with eight Caucus members from the House of Representatives and the Senate, took place at the Indian Embassy in Monrovia.
The Indian Embassy in Liberia announced a $1 million project in collaboration with the Women's Legislative Caucus of Liberia to strengthen gender-responsive governance and women's empowerment. The project, funded by the IBSA Fund (India, Brazil, South Africa) and UN Women, focuses on capacity building for WLCL members to promote gender-responsive legislation, combat discriminatory laws, ensure access to health and economic rights, and provide informal education for rural women and girls.
A statement appreciating the efforts mentions, "We are honored to host Members of the Women's Legislative Caucus of Liberia (WLCL), led by Chairperson Rep. Ellen A. Attoh-Wreh. Discussions covered potential collaborations and parliamentary exchanges. WLCL appreciated India's ongoing support under the UN South-South Cooperation framework for women's empowerment and gender equality."
Ambassador Manoj Bihari Verma thanked the Caucus for their warm reception during their visit to Liberia, expressed gratitude for Liberia's solidarity against terrorism, and praised India's commitment to strengthening women's leadership. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to cooperation.
