In 4 seats, it's women vs women in Punjab assembly elections

Even though male candidates too are in the fray in these constituencies, the assembly segments of Malout, Malerkotla, Moga and Muktsar will witness election contests between women when Punjab goes to poll son February 20.

From all four constituencies, the Congress has fielded women candidates, while from two constituencies, and farmers political front Sanyukt Samaj Morcha AAP has fielded women. Former CM Capt Amarinder Singh’s Punjab Lok Congress and farmers’ political front Sanyukt Samaj Morcha have fielded a women candidate each.

AAP has fielded former MP Prof Sadhu Singh’s daughter, Dr Baljit Kaur (46), while Congress has fielded AAP rebel Rupinder Kaur Ruby (33) from Malout assembly segment. Punjab Lok Congress which is in alliance with BJP has fielded Farzana Alam (67) while Congress has fielded sitting minister Razia Sultana (55).

AAP has fielded Dr Amandeep Kaur Arora (39) against Sonu Sood’s sister Malvika Sood Sachar (38), whom Congress has fielded from Moga assembly segment. Malvika, runs Sood Foundadtion, a charitable NGO, through which she has been working for people during Covid pandemic and has done master in computer applications.

Farmer’s political front Sanyukt Samaj Morcha has fielded Anuroop Kaur (29) against former MLA Karan Kaur Brar (70) from Muktsar assembly, whom Congress has fielded. Anurrop is pursuing MPhil in Comparartive Indian Literature from Arts Faculty at University of Delhi and has worked as an assistant professor at SGTB Khalsa College in University of Delhi.

AAP candidate Dr Amandeep Kaur and Dr Baljit Kaur said they might be new to the electoral field, but they would do constructive things.
