IIM Collaborates with Karnataka Government to help SC-ST Women Graduates Build Entrepreneurship Skills

In collaboration with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore, the Department of Social Welfare and the Department of Scheduled Tribes Welfare of the Government of Karnataka started a training programme to assist SC/ST women graduates in enhancing their entrepreneurial skills.

Professor G Shainesh gave an overview of the executive education programmes at IIM Bangalore after Professor Rishikesha T Krishnan and Minister Kota Shrinivas Poojary exchanged an MoU to this effect.

ABOUT THE ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROGRAM

Aspiring female entrepreneurs can use this programme, which is provided under the umbrella of IIMB's executive education programmes, to take their idea and turn it into a commercial endeavour.

It offers a chance for both professional and personal growth, with an emphasis on learning management techniques, navigating growth prospects, developing effective leadership abilities, and receiving assistance from formal mentoring on the company idea and peer networking.

MODEL FOR HYBRID LEARNING

Professor Ganesh Prabhu, the programme director, gave an outline of the curriculum and noted that it would combine instructor-led sessions with participant-paced self-paced virtual learning.

"The participants will work on evolving a business plan and they will be mentored. They will present their business plan to the cohort and the mentors in the concluding module," he said.

CHIEF MINISTER'S MESSAGE

CM Basavaraj Bommai's message was read aloud by Rakesh Kumar, Commissioner of the Department of Social Welfare, GoK "Every woman in the state should be economically empowered. Our aim is to encourage women from scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and vulnerable groups to participate in economic activity and growth."

"Accordingly, in the budget of 2022-23, we made provision for a program that will help 300 women graduates from these sections to avail of entrepreneurship training at IIM Bangalore," he added.

"You should not only become self-sufficient, but also inspire others to take up entrepreneurship. Become an employer of many. I wish you all good luck," he said.

IIM Bangalore Director Professor Rishikesha T Krishnan discussed the institute's extensive and ongoing involvement in providing entrepreneurial learning programmes, including the National Commission for Women's programme, the Women Start-up Program backed by Kotak Bank, and others.

MINISTER POOJARY SAYS WE ARE ROOTING FOR WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT

"Many families lost their breadwinners because of Covid-19. Many people, especially in the informal economy, lost their jobs. Women were badly affected," said Kota Srinivas Poojary.

Observing that educated and empowered women give improved growth and stability, the Minister for Social Welfare and Backward Classes said: "When women start ventures, they not only become self-reliant, they also create employment opportunities for many."

"The success of ventures led by women has encouraged. women from all sections of society to set up their own ventures. We aspire to give society successful women entrepreneurs by nurturing their confidence and equipping them with the skills and knowledge required to develop their business ideas," he said.
