FIFA hopes to achieve $1 billion revenue from the Women's World Cup, President Gianni Infantino announced. While speaking at Saudi Arabia–U.S. Investment Forum 2025 in Riyadh, Infantino pointed out the spectacular development and rising commercial value of women's football.
The 2023 Women's World Cup, jointly hosted by New Zealand and Australia, broke even with more than $570 million in revenue—offering a good platform for future development. Infantino described women's football as "incredibly important" and stated that FIFA plans to reinvest the concerted $1 billion all back into the women's game.
Brazil will be the host of the 2027 tournament and will have the distinction of hosting the Women's World Cup for the first time in South America. The United States is planned to be the host of the 2031 competition and it will increase from 32 teams to 48 teams.
Infantino also highlighted the dormant economic power of football outside of Europe, projecting that if nations such as Saudi Arabia or the U.S. could reach 20 percent of Europe's football activity, the world GDP contribution from the sport would be more than half a trillion dollars. He praised Saudi Arabia's drive to develop women's football, such as the creation of a women's league and national team, and referred to it as one of the most significant women's team sports in the world.
