- Haryana government proposes to use drones to spray one lakh acres with agrochemicals
- The project is a part of the government-sponsored ‘Agrishakti Namo Drone Didi initiative
- Aims to promote the involvement of women in employment in these regions
The Haryana Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department has a plan to cover one lakh acres using drones for spraying agrochemicals under the government-sponsored "Agrishakti Namo Drone Didi" initiative.
The initiative aims to facilitate the participation of women in this sector in addition to advocating for scientific usage of fertilizers and insecticides in agricultural activities.
Under this initiative, female drone operators with proper training in operating the drones will be provided with financial assistance in order to reach farmers with their drone spraying service under the name ‘Drone Didis.’
The department has advised all DDAs to follow standard operating procedures issued by the Union government to implement in a safe manner.
As per statements from authorities, this initiative is in line with the focus of the state government on sustainable agriculture practices, efficient use of agricultural inputs, and increased participation of women in agricultural service delivery.
DDAs have also been mandated to conduct awareness programs and check activities in the field to achieve targets on time at the district level.
The targets have been assigned at the district level, with a target of 10,000 acres set for Sirsa. A target of 8,000 acres each has been assigned to Bhiwani and Karnal. Sonepat will accomplish a target of 6,000 acres. Hisar, Jind, Kaithal, and Palwal have a target of 5,000 acres each.
Fatehabad, Gurugram, Jhajjar, Kurukshetra, Nuh, Panipat, Rewari, and Rohtak have a target of 4,000 acres each.
To elaborate, in a statement, Wazir Singh, Deputy Director of Agriculture Karnal, explained, "The main goal of this project is to support 'Women Entrepreneurship in Agriculture through Drone Services.' With drone spraying, fertilizers and pesticides can be used in a more efficient manner because of precision farming practices."
He stated that this initiative promotes the usage of nano fertilisers, minimises environmental effects, prevents overuse of agrochemicals, provides employment opportunities in rural areas, and assists in increasing agricultural productivity by ensuring uniform application of inputs at the right time.
To avail this service, it is mandatory that farmers are registered on both Meri Fasal Mera Byora and the Agriculture Department portal. Although it will be borne by the farmers to purchase fertilizers and insecticides, a service charge of ₹250 will be given to Drone Didis per acre.
Drone Didis need to be trained and certified in accordance with DGCA guidelines and have to be registered on the Agriculture Department portal. Only applicants recommended by "Haryana State Rural Livelihood Mission" shall be eligible.
Through the implementation process, farmers will be able to book online drone spraying services. The system will then direct the task to a Drone Didi operating in the region, with field officers validating the spraying before cash is released.
