Delhi to Launch Mahila Samriddhi Yojana on Raksha Bandhan

The Delhi government is set to launch the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana on Raksha Bandhan (August 28), under which eligible women from economically weaker families will receive ₹2,500 per month through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
The scheme is likely to become one of the key welfare schemes of the government and will help provide financial security to women in the national capital. Multiple media reports indicate that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be attending the event for the launch of the project, which is expected to be confirmed soon.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced that the government has been working on the rollout and is nearly done with all phases of preparations, such as creating an online registration portal and finalising the eligibility criteria. The Delhi government has allocated ₹5,110 crore for the scheme in the 2026-27 Budget, which is likely to reach 20-22 lakh women. Financial assistance will be made available directly in Aadhaar linked bank accounts of the beneficiaries via DBT system.
The proposed eligibility criteria are Delhi residents, age 21-60, and income in the family range from ₹2.5 lakh to ₹3 lakh per year. Ration card holders – preferably women – will be given precedence in the selection process. It is generally expected that one member of a family will be a woman who will be eligible for the benefit.
Key Highlights
- ₹2,500 Monthly Aid: Financial assistance for eligible women through DBT.
- ₹5,110 Crore Allocation: Around 20–22 lakh women expected to benefit.
- Eligibility: Delhi women aged 21–60 from eligible low-income families.
Some of the categories of applicants, such as Government employees, income tax payers, females with government pension and car owners, will be excluded from the scheme. These conditions are designed to guarantee that financial support is provided to women of economically vulnerable households.
The applications for Mahila Samriddhi Yojana will be accepted only on an online portal. The required details to be submitted are Aadhaar card, name, date of birth, gender, parent's name, marital status, mobile number, email ID, duration of residence in Delhi, Aadhaar linked bank account details and a self-declaration form. The government is likely to announce in detail, application method and registration dates nearer the official launch.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had promised a slew of welfare measures for women among them the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana during the Delhi Assembly elections. The proposed rollout is an important step towards realizing that commitment and will help to increase financial support for women from low-income households. But a few details of the launch, such as the final launch dates and the complete guidelines for implementation, are yet to be known through an official government notification.
The Mahila Samriddhi Yojana is expected to strengthen financial security for women from economically weaker households by providing regular monthly assistance. With the launch scheduled around Raksha Bandhan, the Delhi government aims to enhance women's economic empowerment through direct financial support while ensuring transparency and timely disbursement via the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
