Chhattisgarh Mahila Congress President Phulodevi Netam Resigns to Pave Way for Other Women Leaders
By: WE Staff | Wednesday, 19 July 2023
In a significant development, Rajya Sabha MP Phulodevi Netam tendered her resignation as the president of the Chhattisgarh Mahila Congress. Having held the top state post in the Congress women's wing for an impressive seven years, Netam voluntarily stepped down to create space for other women colleagues within the party to be considered for the prestigious organizational position in the poll-bound state.
Netam's decision came shortly after a major organizational reshuffle within the Chhattisgarh Congress, where Mohan Markam was replaced as the state president by Lok Sabha MP Deepak Baij. As the party gears up for the upcoming assembly elections, this reshuffle prompted Netam to make way for fresh leadership in the women's wing.
A prominent tribal leader hailing from the Bastar region, Phulodevi Netam secured her place in the Rajya Sabha in 2020, representing Chhattisgarh. Throughout her tenure as the president of the Chhattisgarh Mahila Congress, she served with dedication and devotion, earning the appreciation and love of party members. In her resignation letter addressed to Mahila Congress national president Netta D'souza, Netam expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity to lead the Chhattisgarh Pradesh Mahila Congress and for the tremendous aid she obtained from the members.
In her statement, Netam humbly acknowledged that her seven-year stint had been rewarding, but she firmly believed that the time had come for another deserving female colleague to take on the role. Demonstrating her commitment to the party and its values, she expressed her readiness to continue working diligently to strengthen the Congress, which came to power in Chhattisgarh in 2018, ending the 15-year rule of the BJP.
Responding to queries about her future political plans, Netam revealed that her decision to contest the upcoming assembly elections would be guided by the directives of the party's high command. She demonstrated a willingness to align with the party's vision and objectives, showcasing her loyalty and dedication as a responsible Congress leader.
During her political journey, Phulodevi Netam had previously served as the MLA of Keshkal from 1998 to 2003 in the Bastar division. Additionally, she contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Kanker, displaying her unwavering commitment to public service and representation.
As Phulodevi Netam gracefully steps down from her leadership role, her resignation highlights the party's commitment to promoting and empowering women leaders within its ranks. Her willingness to step aside and support other women in the party demonstrates the spirit of inclusivity and gender representation that the Congress seeks to foster.
Phulodevi Netam's decision to relinquish her position as the president of the Chhattisgarh Mahila Congress will undoubtedly pave the way for new opportunities and fresh leadership within the party. Her selfless act has not only been lauded by her fellow members but also showcases her commitment to the cause of gender equality and representation in the political sphere. As the Congress prepares for the upcoming elections, her move sends a powerful message of unity, diversity, and progress.
