The BMC has partnered with the Bhamla Foundation, founded by Asif Bhamla, to create awareness on the education and empowerment of the girl child in India through a program called ‘Supergirls of Tomorrow’. It was introduced during Christmas.

The Bhamla Foundation, as part of the campaign, presented the ‘Excellence in Women Empowerment Through Cinema Award’ to actor Rani Mukerji for her contribution to themes of women’s empowerment through her work in films.

Rani, who has been a part of the Indian film industry for 30 years now, has portrayed many characters in films that were all about resilience, independence, and social equality. She carried home a National Award this year with her performance in Chatterjee vs. Norway.

Some of her films are Black, No One Killed Jessica, Mardaani franchise, Yuva, Bunty Aur Babli, Saathiya, Hum Tum, Veer-Zaara, Hichki, and Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway. Many of these films showcase women playing strong, independent roles.

While receiving the award, Rani told the audience about projects that provided an opportunity for girls to get educated and empowered. She added, "Movies can shape up social mindsets," and her performances have always tried to portray women as competent and equal contributors to society.

She is next scheduled to appear in Mardaani 3, in which she will again play the role of police officer Shivani Shivaji Roy. The movie is slated for a release on February 27, 2026.
