The All India Football Federation Technical Committee recommends Langam Chaoba Devi as the next head coach of the Indian senior women's national football team. The recommendation followed after the extensive virtual meeting chaired by AIFF Technical Director I.M. Vijayan and attended by Pinky Bompal Magar, Shabbir Ali, Victor Amalraj, Santosh Singh, and Climax Lawrence.
Being the captain of the national side against the Philippines in the country where the 1999 Asian Championships took place, and having an assistant coach role with the Indian team, Devi introduces expertise in this job. She is not only a native of the country, but also famous for her participation on the football field in the 1998 Bangkok Asian Games where she exhibited her exceptional skills.
"AIFF is fully supportive of the togetherness of the panel and believes in their recommendation," remarked the AIFF president after the athletic board decision. Devi made headlines by becoming the only female coach from the northeast who is holding an AFC 'A' License badge. This distinguishes her as having not only a passion but also an expertise in the field.
Furthermore, Mr. Syed Sabir Pasha, the Technical Director of AIFF, was a key participant in the discussions. Alongside Devi's appointment, the committee asked for technical assistance for the women's team through Priya PV and Ronibala Chanu as an assistant coach and goalkeeper coach respectively.
The appointments were driven by their outstanding performances at the Turkish Women's Cup Alanya, held in Turkey this past year. The committee also engaged in discussions regarding the selection of coaches for the men's U-16 and U-19 national teams and recommended the most suitable candidates based on the received applications: Ishfaq Ahmed as the head coach, Yan Cheng Law as the assistant coach and Mohammed Zakeer Hussain as the goalkeeping coach, the U-16 men's national team. The U-19 men's national team committee suggested Ranjan Chaudhuri as the head coach and Sandip Nandy as the keeper coach.
