The All India Football Federation (AIFF) League Committee has permitted teams to sign three foreign players for the upcoming Indian Women's League (IWL), with a maximum of two allowed on the pitch at once. The IWL will begin play on April 25.
Lalnghinglova Hmar presided over a meeting via video conference where the Committee decided to start the Hero IWL on April 25.
The Hero IWL and the Hero 27th Senior Women's National Football Championships 2022–2023 would be separated by a sufficient amount of time, the Committee decided, the AIFF stated in a press release posted on its website.
The League Committee meeting was attended by Dr. Shaji Prabhakaran, secretary general of the Federation, as well as M Satyanarayan, Dr. Kiran Chowgule, Dr. Reginold Varghese, Amit Chaudhuri, and Caitanno Fernandes.
The Committee decided to allow three foreigners to compete in the Hero IWL, with a maximum of two of them allowed on the pitch simultaneously. When clubs made the same request, it was taken into account.
"For the 2022–2023 season, the Hero IWL will employ a format with 16 teams split into two groups. The semifinals, finals, and quarterfinals make up the knockout stage, which the top four teams from each group progress to. The following season's home-and-away Hero IWL will feature the top eight clubs in straight placements" the story claims.
After considerable consideration and to advance and expand the league, the Committee also chose to add East Bengal to the Hero IWL season. East Bengal has asked to be taken into consideration for this season's lineup.
